TOMS Introduces The Marketplace, a new destination for making a difference

In many ways, TOMS has become the poster child for social good. From the very beginning, they've followed a simple model: When you purchase something, they give something similar to someone in need: One for One ®. This year has been a big one for TOMS. They gave their 10 millionth pair of shoes, their Sight-Giving initiative has now helped more than 150,000 people, they began creating jobs in Haiti and they opened their flagship store. Yet, as always, they want to do more to support developing nations and alleviate poverty.
Together, We Can Accomplish So Much More
TOMS knows that when likeminded people, companies and missions come together in creative ways, communities can be impacted powerfully. They also understand that if you want to create change, you have to be willing to change yourself. So this holiday season TOMS is changing things up with The Marketplace – a new e-commerce platform for charitable businesses –  to help support newer, smaller startup ventures, which are also pushing for social change.
Marketplace is the convergence of minds and energies and entrepreneurs that are out there trying to make the world a better place.
- Joyn, Marketplace co-founder

Rooted in the belief that commerce can be about more than just profits and everyday purchases can generate tangible, positive change, The Marketplace is about something much bigger than TOMS. It’s about embracing new ways of giving in order to address a whole new world of needs. It’s about bringing greater awareness to amazing companies, causes and products. It’s about helping emerging social entrepreneurs succeed. Ultimately, it’s about bringing the world together to support businesses that are improving lives.

This virtual showroom of products has something for everyone. Fashionable paper bead jewelry, crochet wear, thoughtfully crafted home accessories, iPad cases, Christmas ornaments, ear buds, Falling Whistles, linen ties, back packs, weekend bags, shave bags, cosmetic bags, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz or The Great Gatsby tote bags, market bags, purses, “Philanthropist Briefcases”… and the list goes on. The hundreds of really cool products cost anywhere from $5 to $500.

The 30 companies featured in The Marketplace give in different ways, but they all share a common mission – to create opportunities for positive change. Thus, each item purchased in The Marketplace supports a distinct social cause. The causes range from health, nutrition and clean water and reforestation to education and job creation. If you're passionate about a particular cause, you can shop by cause. If you want  your purchase to impact a specific region or country, you can shop by region. If you have a favorite brand you'd like to support, you can shop by brand. If you have no idea what you're looking for but would like to find some unique gifts that that will give back in more ways than one, The Marketplace makes it easy for you. The Gift Finder allows you to browse carefully curated collections for guys, gals, kiddos and more.

I say it's high time we ditch the age-old saying, "Don't spend it all in one place." This holiday season, I say we go for it! If you haven't already checked it out by now, head to The Marketplace and discover gifts that spread hope, health and happiness around the world!
